Good afternoon readers, I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday so far. As you can gather from the title, I spent this past weekend at My City Conference 15’, in Sacramento, CA. Here’s a little context: A little under 4 weeks ago, I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw Hillsong Young and Free posted a live stream link of their summer camp in Australia, so of course I put my work down and watched. Oh and a little context to that, Hillsong Y&F is my favorite band; I love their vision, there mission, and of course their music. At the end of the streaming, Senior Pastor of Hillsong Church, Brian Houston, mentions he is going to be in Sacramento in February with the band…I paused the video immediately and google “Sacramento, Australia.” “That has to be a city name there, there is no way they are coming here,” I thought. Lo and behold, My City conference 2015 in Sac-town, CA! Within 30 minutes of finding out, I bought my 3 day conference ticket. Hahaha mind you, I had no idea who I was going with or where I was going to stay. I just knew I was meant to go. I read up about the youth pastors who were putting on the even and what they had to say all aligned to what was in my heart; building a generation of youth who are not ashamed of the gospel and will “Risk it all” – who are going to be lights in their city by sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those around them. An amazing array of speakers were lined up and H&F would be leading worship, even all my non-Christian friends said, “Yay! You finally get see your fave band live!”
This weekend was filled with joy, laughter, and being in awe of God’s presence. This next season in my life is very important, I’ll be transferring to University in the fall, my life can change depending on where I am accepted. But I know where ever I end up, I want to glorify God. This weekend brought a lot of peace, in that it doesn’t matter where I go, God will use me and teach me anywhere. I feel better equip and challenged in many ways after this weekend, I have got my studying and preparing cut out for me!
And though these people will never read this blog post, I want to give a shout-out to all the amazing pastors and worship teams who spent time preparing to bless and encourage us this weekend. Thank you to Cole and Caitlin Zick, Austin Molt, Jason Batt, Carl Lentz, Sean Smith, Brian Houston, Capital Worship, and Hillsong Young and Free!
Oh and as a disclaimer, I didn’t take that many pictures at all, I was genuinely so caught up in enjoying the moment that this is all I snapped. I hope you enjoy my rant and photos. I will see you all very soon! Muah and have a good rest of your week.
This is Kimeya (aka: Kimz) – my conference buddy, hotel roomie, and my #1 source of entertainment this weekend. Isnt’ she lovely?Letting our mom’s know we are alive (who else has to do this like twice a day while they are away on a road trip?!).
On Saturday, our afternoon session was split between boys and girls. Pastor Caitlin Zick led us girls in a sermon that was very special to me. She was driving to a meeting one day and felt led to listen to the radio. She flipped to a random pop station and heard some of the Top 40 today, in particular, Loyal by Chris Brown, stuck out to her. She empowered us and reminded us that we are loyal! Music today bashes on women and tears us down. She spoke about how God loves us and He is for us not against us! We easily excuse the lyrics of songs like this and saying, “the beat is good” or “it’s just fun,” (I’m quilty of both!) but I believe the music you listen to has power. And if that is all you listen to, you are not feeding your mind a positive message at all. At the end, she gave us all a blue string to tie on our wrists, to remember what we learned and that we are valued.
Thank you for reading and scrolling through the images. Much love my friends!
Until next time,
