Thank you to the amazing photographer who took our show’s poster/promo picture: Eric Xu – You can find more of his work here: http://
I’ve had the honor of being apart of 4 annual shows, from the 4th to the 8th. Freshman year feels like just yesterday, where I wanted to sew for the show, but knew nothing about darts, hems, or lining. As eager as I was, I worked hard and worked my way up through the club. Sophomore year I was honored with the position of treasurer, then junior year I became the Vice President, and finally senior year I was the President. It’s been an amazing roller coaster. I’ve learned far beyond how to sew on buttons and how to iron at the correct temperature, but I’ve learned to be a leader. Thank you fashion club for giving me a priceless experience and teaching me so much I would never have been able to learn else where. Most importantly I learned communication, not it just being able to pass information to others, but expressing what I think or feel. The lessons I learned I will carry with me through college and into my profession careers. Here are the two lines I sewed for my final show. I really hope you like them.
Line #1 – Song: Justin Timberlake – Tunnel Vision – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ_NcWC5M6w
Outfit #1 – Spandex pencil skirt and velvet crop top. Model (and good friend): Melody Eslamian
Outfit #2: Plush pink skirt with exposed zipper detail. Model: Marina Urroz
Outfit #3: White and floral sundress. Model: Me 🙂
This next line is very dear to my heart. Since my freshman year, I wanted to make a cohesive garment line that flowed well. So I sat and painted all the fabric worn in this line before sewing it. My inspiration was watercolor. I’m always amazed by the beauty of watercolor and how it flows and pleases the eye. It was joy to sit and paint 8 yards of white cotton! Enjoy!
Line #2 – Song: Dev – Me – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1hJjfvzihg
All garments in line #2 Four years in fashion club with this girl; Navya Cherukuru. She’s venturing off the big apple this fall to study fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Good luck friend, and I hope you can take all that we’ve learned together along with you.
Our Amazing club adviser – Ms. Johnson. She has been my friend all throughout high school, I appreciate so much what she does for her students. She listens and doesn’t look down upon anyone for their choices or actions. Her laid back persona makes it so easy to solve problems with. It’s no shock that she received the honor of Teacher of the year : ) Thank you for always being there to keep us sane and encouraging us in our dreams. I’ve realized that after leaving fashion club, I will miss you most.
Thank you to our show’s photographer: Takuto Doshiro. You can view more images from the show and see what other designers sewed & also more of his work as well here – http://www.flickr.com/photos/tak_d/sets/72157633704120051/
And finally, a special thank you to all the friends and family that came to our shows over the years. It means the world to us designers to walk out on the runway to see a full crowd cheering us on. I’m so thankful that my final year, the crowd was packed! Thank you again for making us feel so special!
Until next time,
